Welcome to the new Ivan-James.com!

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the new look of the site! Had to make the  switch to WordPress. No more firing up dream weaver and doing everything by hand. I ain’t got time for that.  So what’s been new? Well, I did DanCon a couple weekends back and it was great. It’s always refreshing to hang out with a bunch of indies all doing what they do simply because they love it. Made some sales, met some new creators, and got excited for the upcoming con season.

Didn’t win the Top Cow talent hunt unfortunately, but it’s all good. I still love what I wrote and it was a great exercise just entering. Oh, and I did get Matt Hawkins adding me on Google + out of it. That’s something right? I mean people still use that right? ; ) Anyway, there will be more competitions down the line and I will enter them all.

I’ll check back in soon. Hopefully with some news about  The Awakened issue 2 and Where Have the Mighty Gone.  Until then, check out a little interview Tim and I did at DanCon Spring 2013!

NIGHT SHIFT Preview now live!

I stumbled upon Manga Studio 5 and it helped me create NIGHT SHIFT with relative ease. It’s great. They let you pull in 3d models, pose them, then ink right on top – including a plethora of tones, action lines, etc. Perfect for non artists like myself who would just rather create comics asap rather than sit idle waiting for artists to finish. So here it is – an 8 page preview of my latest. Click the cover to launch the comic. Hope you enjoy!

Why? Well not only do they have a cool universe and characters armed with great writing and outstanding art, BUT they launched a talent hunt to give writers like me a chance to compete and get published!

 

Who does that?! NO ONE. That’s why they absolutely rock. It is so rare for opportunities like this to pop up for aspiring comic writers. I couldn’t be more grateful. So THANK YOU TOP COW!

But for good reason! My wife Brenda and I gave birth to this beautiful gem of a baby girl. Meet Nora Rose James, born on June 14th 2012!

It’s been a crazy amazing ride and we love her to death. But have no fear, my productivity is still alive. I just finished writing a nine page short that is now in production, The Awakened Issue 2 is being cranked on, and I’m actually banging out my first novel! Sounds crazy to say, but it’s even crazier that I’m ACTUALLY doing it. I’m 32k words in and about half way through. Stay tuned.

 

I also need to give a shout out to Fantum Breed for getting me in last minute to Wizard World Chicago 2012. I did a Sunday guest appearance and it felt good to get some con action in. Can’t wait for the next one!

 

Anyway, just wanted to check in and introduce our noodle Nora and let you all know I’m still cranking away doin’ work.

But I still say the best version of The Awakened lives on issuu.com – solely because you can listen to the fabulous soundtrack by the talented Nico B, Cochise Soulstar, and K.I.D. That version lives here.
