Nory’s slowly but surely coming together. Nose, eyes, and ears are attached and mouth is done. Now on to her hair. I’m really enjoying how she is turning out!

I felt it’s time we added a lady to the mix. Meet Nory! So far I’m liking how she’s turning out. Can’t wait to finish her.
Another puppet down and this time I went completely custom! What started as a doodle left on my desk at work that looked like this:
Turned into this!
I kept detailed build notes on Silky Steve, and will post complete build process soon!
It all started with me wanting to buy my daughter a Chica doll from Sprout’s Sunny Side Up show. I realized they don’t sell a good one and thought, “hell I could probably make one.” After googling some puppet creation tutorials, I figured I should probably start with something simple. That turned into me diving headfirst into creating a “muppet” styled puppet of my own. Meet Carter!
Carter is a puppet trying to make it in a human world. Often feeling alone and misunderstood, he never really knew what he wanted to do with his life. That was until he came across an old rerun of the Muppet Show. Seeing people like him entertaining and capturing the viewer as they did simply entranced him. He was instantly obsessed! He began acting in community theater, taking singing, dancing, and even comedy classes anywhere and everywhere he could. His goal in life is to become one of the Muppets, no matter the cost! Granted, he is still waiting for an agent to call (ANY agent. If you know one please send them his way.) He has a goal and no one will deter him from it! A puppet can dream can’t he?!
Overall he was great fun to build. Puppet number one down. Can’t wait to build more! Thanks Project Puppet! Your patterns have shown me the way…
Another C2E2 came and went and I think I enjoyed it more than last year. Part of it could be that it was the first year I didn’t get a table, but w/ Reed Pop nickel and dimin’ creators it’s kind of hard to make getting one justifiable. I mean if you’re going to continually jack the price – make it worth it. DC wasn’t even there this year. I still say if a con is in your backyard, you should get a discount.
Anyway, being free from con table shackles I was able to really take in all the show had to offer. Mainly, I finally managed to catch some great panels – something I’ve wanted to do for years now. It may pay off too. I was able to get some submission packages into some editor hands which is always a plus.
As always, it was great to catch up with other indie creators and even brawl it up with some of them in Injustice at one of the after parties! I also got the chance to speak with Israel Idonije from the Bears who came out with a comic and started a Chicago based publishing company which rocks.
Annnnnnnd lastly, I picked up some long needed trades and a cool piece for the study. Pics below! Till next time…
